Yes? No? Are they called something different? How strong, efficient, reliable etc?

It's really up tp your imagintion dude. However you want em' to represent d6B 's, though I imagine SU affiliates might have more top of the line force fields, while free colonists would have to use solid armrour more often. They Ijad may also have access to the technology. Unless of course, you meant a different kind of force field in general, say, perhaps to protect a colony from space debris. What specification did you have in mind?

In the MFZ canon setting (the Solar Calendar) I don't think force fields or energy shielding exist at the mobile frame or personal level. Maybe on bigger things, but I doubt that as well; from what I understand, they're more mechanical than electronical, which means computers and complex stuff is kept to a minimum. For frames.

However, that has not stopped a few of us...

I opted against force fields because they're visually uninteresting (OK, except for that Ijad one above). For me, a chaff dispenser, ablative armor, big kite shield are all more interesting because they have visual presence and are things that a pilot uses actively.
