When is a frame not a frame?

Postby peglegpete » Thu Feb 07, 2013 11:41 am

so there has been a lot of discussion on non-humanoid frames. my question is how divergent can you get and still have your creation be considered a frame, as opposed to just a vehicle?

for instance, my company, being from a gast giant, utilizes both winged chubs and manned, fully enclosed gliders.

would the gliders be considered frames, or planes?

from a rules standpoint, there's obviously little difference. my curiosity comes entierly fluff-based concern.

Yeah I think as long as frames are vaguely derived from animal body plans, such as the bipedal humanoid frames and the quadruped non-human frames, it's a frame. I mean, Hi-Legs don't have arms, so a flying frame doesn't have to either.

Does it need/use muscle cylinders? Yes? Then it's a frame.

So if your gliders are ornithopters that uses muscle cylinders to drive the wings, I'd say it was a frame. Because something isn't going to use muscle cylinders unless they are best suited to the task.

As i read your sentence i thought you were going with, "if its an ornithopter with arms" which made me think of none other than...

I haven't seen the whole thing yet, but what I've seen was really kinetic and unusual for something that stays within genre bounds.
