Spammers

Postby Mantisking » Fri May 02, 2014 10:33 pm

Looks like we've had another influx so I'm closing off registration for the night. Hopefully we can get it sorted soon.

It looks like they've moved on so we're open again.

I'm new to the forums, just signed up today but I've been following for about a week now. Is there any rhyme or reason for these spammers? Like what's their deal? And I haven't noticed any, I may have been looking in the wrong spots or just u guys got them taken down by the time I showed up.

We jump on them pretty quickly if we can, so hopefully they don't stick around very long once they are found. I have no idea what their purpose is - these aren't bots, but actual people who get through our sign up measures and then just make a spam post. I guess they're getting paid to post this stuff in the vain hope that some idiot will click on their stuff? I really have no clue why they exist.

The fact that you haven't noticed them I guess is a good thing, means us as mods are doing our job :)

Or they're hoping that their post get left behind and may provide some search engine ranking bonuses to whatever was linked to.

I'm going to assume this new acct is a spammer as well (based on the single post and link to discount knives in their sig).

Bizarrely, seems to have included an exact address as their location too (not that I'm overly familiar with US postal address, having rarely sent anything there)...

It's a very short post, too. The spammers I've seen (and reported) on here usually write a paragraph of crap.
Rooftop Racing Rules (Version 0.4.0) Version 0.5.0 coming soon, with some big changes.

Whomever it was, was trying to be sneaky. There was a second user with a similar sig and identical IP address. Both are gone now.

I don't see what the problem is. I think most people around here could use a 10% discount on premium Russian Greenhouses. Although with shipping up to 40 rubles a kilometer I'm not sure it's worth it, in the end.
