Build Microscale Spaceships!

Postby afny » Thu May 24, 2012 2:28 pm

DO IT. I've been building these because I ran out of fiddly joint bits to build frames. It's really fun. Once the full MFZ lore is revealed, these may or may not be included in my setting as fluff, depending on the current Solar Calender propulsion tech and ship production standards.

"The Red Queen's Hypothesis" Experimental Battleship
What's on board "The Red Queen's Hypothesis" is anyone's guess, but its presence in the system seems an ill omen. Some say it carries an orbital bio-weapon derived from terraforming technology. Others say local prisons have been evacuated and all the inmates have been taken aboard. Whatever the truth, "The Red Queen's Hypothesis" never sails without a heavily armed escort, and every colonist dreads to see it in their sky.

Argo Class Light Frigates
Combat frigates designed to operate with or without a mothership, Argos are versatile and tenacious combatants. Typically equipped with a variety of missiles and torpedos, both their operating range and firing range are great.

"Belphegor" Le Gendre Class Frigate
A sturdy merchant vessel, the "Belphegor" is known in the market ports of every backwater colony in the system. While its crew prefers to trade in weaponry and heavy machinery, they also oversee a thriving plant-genetics trade.

"La Nuit" Interplanetary Cruiser
The Cruiser "La Nuit" is a haven for criminals, refugees, pirates and outcasts. Her jury-rigged ECM systems and sensor masks are worth exponentially more than her outdated engines, meager beam array and even her hull. "La Nuit" always has room for a few wayward passengers and their cargo, if you know where and when to find her. Though much of the ship is empty and desolate, her internal real-estate varies sharply. Crew decks contain spartan quarters, hydroponic greenhouses, chaotic hovels, and a few exquisitely maintained (and well hidden) staterooms. "La Nuit" is rarely looted, though passenger relations can be somewhat murky.

Hundreds of spacefarers from the outlying colonies have sailed on "La Nuit" at least once, but few have ever seen her Captain. Some say he died years ago and his uploaded brain pattern keeps the ship sailing, hopping silently from colony to colony, stopping only for ritualistic offerings of fuel and embarkation. Many of the systems on board "La Nuit" have been upgraded by gracious travelers that once found solace aboard; nearly all of her skeleton crew were once merely passengers.

To many, especially on the more prosperous colonies, "La Nuit" is just a story--and likely to remain that way. To others, she is a way of life.

These are really nice :) Though I reckon you could get away with putting them in the "Vehicle Design" thread.

Nice visible bridges; I definitely went for a less centralized (read: unplanned) approach, so my bridges exist...less. I love the Harlock-esque ship, but you should consider adding just a touch of red.The forward cannon on a swivel is aptly navel.

Hey, nice. Microscale spacehips, you say?

I gave that a try a good while ago.

Great integration of Technic. LOVE the stack of disks on the Port side of the carrier.

Nothing like the slick designs above, but here's my first attempt.

Zhang Zip-Ships, automated ships designed to deliver payloads at high speed. This pair is accelerating continuously as they pass through the Sol's Kupier Belt.

Making little spaceships is fun!

For a five-brick design, I would definitely call those ships slick. It's so much fun, right?

Dug my greebles back into microspace. These ships are intended to be part of an MFZ setting. What setting? I don't know. At first they were for Solar Century, but they might fit right in elsewhere, so it's up in the air. Anyway.

The Privateers main ship there reminds me of White Base/Albion from MSG/Gundam 0083. I want one.

All these ships people have posted here look awesome. I dig that Death's Head ship Mantis posted.
