Forest Shuttle Launch Demo

Postby The Hydromancer » Sun May 26, 2019 10:51 pm

I ran a 4 person demo including myself for my wife and our new friends. All frames were positioned so as to be in max direct range of the adjacent enemy frame to inspire a sense of conflict and urgency. A combination of 3, 2, and 1 shot terrain was placed with a single station to capture in the center of the map. For Demo purposes, each Frame and the station were worth 5pts apiece, so everyone started with 10pts total. Only 6 rounds were added to the Doomsday.

Overview of the beginning of the game:

Each team consisted of 1 soldier and 1 specialist of the players choice. Caleb and Kimberly choose an artillery unit while Hydro and Sarah chose melee. Caleb amusingly chose Heavyarms (soldier) and Guncannon (arty), based on their respective timeline and eras heavy support mobile suits. Kimberly chose a Zaku (soldier) and a spiky turtle (arty). Ryan chose Deathscythe (melee) and a Quel (soldier). Finally Sarah chose Char's custom Zaku armed with a beam javelin (melee) and a Protoss dragoon (soldier). Each player except Kim (who placed it on her soldier) opted to equip their specialist with a SSR; Caleb and Kim chose handheld RPGs, Sarah chose a throwable beam saber, and Hydro chose a weighted kama & chain to throw.

I started the game by sending my Quel towards the station, & Deathscythe towards Heavyarms. Caleb focused on fighting me mostly, Sarah focused on fighting me as well & stealing the station after I nabbed it, & not to be left out Kim SSRed Quel to death w/ some impressive overkill, otherwise attacking Caleb. By our 3rd & final turn Sarah secured the lead with 15pts. On the last action of the game, Caleb's Guncannon, beaten to a pulp, lobbed his SSR at a scratchless Deathscythe. The d8 hit a slight bump in the felt, & Caleb bemoaned that it was prevented from rolling further & maybe higher. As a kind gesture, I suggested Caled reroll the d8, openly joking I was probably jinxing myself, & sure enough he rolled 7. Deathscythe had 5 def w/ 6 spot on him, for a total of 8 damage dice to roll. Sure enough, he rolled SIX hits, just enough to 1-shot my poor DS!

Final Score after 3 turns: Sarah 15, Caleb 10, Kimberly 10, & Hydromancer 0! Everyone had an excellent time, & I look forward to running a skirmish next time we all get together. Next time I'll be sure to take more pics/take notes for the write up too.

Gotta love everything about this demo match, well done!

Bonus points for the Mantisking style "art wall" piece of cover!
