Battle Sim - Defense of Kaupan

I'm pretty curious how a "well balanced" company would fare against a swarm company, so I thought I'd do a little sim for everyone's entertainment...

The battlefield:

The river will count as difficult terrain, excepting movement over the bridges, and there's plenty of elevated terrain to test out those new rules.

Forces to follow tomorrow...

First up - The Ijad Swarm
A - d6W d6W d6Rh d6Rh d6Y d6G d8G d8Rr
B - d6W d6W d6Rh d6Rh d6Y d6G d8G d8Rr
C - d6W d6W d6Rh d6Rh d6Y d6G d8G d8Rr
D - d6W d6W d6Rh d6Rh d6Y d6G d8G
E - d6W d6W d6Rh d6Rh d6Y d6G d8G
F - d6W d6W d6Rh d6Rh d6Y d6G d8G
Totals: 6 Frames with 18 Systems
Asset Value = (5+1-1) = 5
Initiative = (5*8) = 40

Second - The Jaegers
1 - d6W d6W d6Y d6Y d6B d8G
2 - d6W d6W d6Rd d6Rd d8Rd d6Y d6B
3 - d6W d6W d6Rh d6Rh d6Rd d6Rd d6Y d6B d8Rr
4 - d6W d6W d6Rh d6Rh d8Rh d6B d6G d8G d8Rr
5 - d6W d6W d6Rh d6Rh d8Rh d6B d6G d8G d8Rr
Totals: 5 Frames with 19 Systems
Asset Value = (5-1+1) = 5
Initiative = (5*7) = 35

This means that the Ijad Swarm is actually on the Defense! I was not expecting that when I threw together the forces, but I'm going to roll with it!

Next up, deployment...

I predict the Ijad will MURDER the Jaegers. [pushes his full stack of peach poker chips into the center of the table] They will get to use ambush set up of 4(!) frames to guarantee that they will be in melee on turn 1 and odds are decent that they can get the point mech with one or both of their defensively placed frames. If they can take out Jaegers 2 & 3 (very likely given the above)it becomes a knife fight , and the Ijad have more knives and more bodies to swing them. Oh yeah, they all have "native" d8G so they are not slowed down by any terrain, ever.

That being said I am super keen to see this play out

Ditto on both counts. I'm really interested to see Swarmers in a lot of different situations, because I really want to field a lot of them but I need to know when to hold back.

Never.

If you are going to swarm you want to be the defender(ie most starting initiative) and you always need to be pressing the attack, ideally starting in the other guys underpants.

I have a feeling that swarmers on attack are always going to win under the current rules, but less so like here where they don't have any distance weapons besides SSRs. Which will really hurt with spotting, but once they're gone those spot dice are just waste.

But they spot for each other in melee, too? :D

I am assuming you are using the term Attack here in the sense of who has less initiative.
With that in mind I would say the opposite, swarmers on defence will be the ideal situation; due to the defender - attacker - defender set up order.

Attacking swarmers facing d6Ra d6Y d6Y that are widely scattered will have a rough time of it.

I would go so far as to say those two types of forces (Swarm Spotters and Artillery Spotters) are each others rock to the others scissors, but the side with advantage will always be the one with initiative.

Yeah sorry, poor wording on my part. I was actually thinking swarmers on defence with high initiative, attacking everything in sight on their first turn.

I thought that's what you meant but wanted to be clear.

Always is a pretty big word. I would say that they have a big advantage, but then they should: they designed their company to perform a specific task using a specific initiative and managed to get both. When anyone can get that much of plan going for them, its usually bad news for the other guy.

OK, I deployed the Ijad Swarm's initial defense in the "city" to give them cover from the Jaeger's approach and direct fire capability.

Their deployment pretty much prevents the Jaegers from setting up anywhere on that side of the river...
