Battletech?

Postby MoronicCinamun » Sat Mar 14, 2015 2:40 pm

Hey guys, I've noticed quite a few of you seem to be into battletech one way or another, and I have looked into it and it looks pretty cool.
Any advice on maybe how to get into it (the minis, I don't care too much for the role play/vidya games), and how cheap/expensive that would be? I can't seem to find that much info on how to get started, other than maybe the introductory box set which seems not bad for about $40.

I downloaded the free quickstart rules pdf, which seems pretty cool, although it lacks the delicious complexity of the full version like heat management and critical hits.
It seems pretty cool, but maybe not worth it for something I will play sparsely at best (the Gods know the last thing I need is more miniatures...)

Look for a starter box set, had some clan minis and the level 1 rules for a good price, then go from there. Or you can build some lego mechs and use them just fine with it. As far as scale goes if everything is close and you use hex or a ruler it works fine.

I second the suggestion of starting with the Introductory Box Set.
It's got mostly Inner Sphere 'Mechs rather than Clan ones though.

What does that mean exactly? XD
Wiki seems to point to like different stats and stuff, but I'm not too sure otherwise.

Roughly, those are the factions in Battletech. Clans are mercenary armies dedicated to the mech-warrior lifestyle, and have most of the cooler/more powerful mechs.

I've never played the tabletop game, and I've only played one of the PC games, but not only was the clan stuff stronger, it was usually lighter and took up less space, so clan mechs were usually armed to the friggin' teeth.

And the clans have cool names and stuff, like Jade Falcon and Ghost Bear.

Clans just have a very focus culture. That is destroyed with contact with I.S. culture.

FOG! How the hank are you able to get off your butt so quickly? Beautiful work.... Makes me think that I should quit being so lazy and post some of the companies I've finished. Some three or four...

Battletech is my newest "look what cool designs" fuel. Post pics if you own any minis please!
If my Frames stay out of the Star Wars universe...
