[Brag] Steal of a Deal

Postby Mantisking » Thu Sep 19, 2013 9:00 am

This is a thread for bragging about those Lego/Clone Bricks sets you've purchased at outrageously low prices.

I was looking through the Clearance aisles last night at one of my local Walmarts and stumbled across a couple of sets that were too good to pass up. I found 5984 Lunar Limo for $19.00 and 5982 Smash'n'Grab for $9.00.

I also picked up the Kre-O 30688 Megatron set for $20.

Totally jealous lol, i've wanted the lunar limo as it is for a long time now lol

Seems i'm in a dead zone of clearence over here in NJ, i've got 1 Kmart, 2 lego stores, 3 walmarts, 4 targets, and 2 toys-r-us's within 20 min of me... but the only things i ever find on clearence are $100+ sets that drop to about $20 off the msrp... not cool Jersey... not cool...

I got the Lego Wild Sheep and Race 3000 games at a local goodwill for $4. I saw that, and it was done.

I'm still trying to find a good purple hued vinyl dye to do some purple frame goodness.

Spent an hour digging through the bulk bins at BrickCon to fill a $15 bag with all the MFZ-type bits I could find. I'm guessing it's ~1000 pieces. 107 headlights, maybe 200 various clips & lampholders, ~40 cheese wedges, a dozen curved slopes. And TONS of old light/dark grey.

Not the best I've ever thrifted, but not bad. From Savers in West Warwick, RI:
$3 - a nearly new 6911 (complete in box with instructions and all the extra factory bits); this one's crying out for a Single Set Challenge
$6 - a partial Creationary: ~1/2 of the parts, sadly no die, but all 96 cards (not that I have a use for them) and a dozen other odd parts not from Creationary

This plus the 3x MTT polybags's on clearance at Walmart for $3ea have made a tiring business trip a little more bearable. :)

I picked up a bunch of sets at TRU the other day. I had a 15% off Clearance coupon and a 20% off transaction coupon. They were running 20% off on selected Lego lines and a BOGO50% on Kre-O. I bought 30166 Robin & Redbird (40 pcs.), 30167 Iron Man vs. Drone (24 pcs.), 40077 Geoffrey (90 pcs.), 4434 Tipper truck (222 pcs.), Battleship Battle Base (355 pcs.), and Star Trek Jellyfish (42 pcs.) for $57.25. That comes out to $0.07 per piece.

I visited the Savers near me today. We dropped off a lot of stuff then went for a stroll inside. I picked up a bag of Random Bionicle parts. $2.11 -- after tax -- for 199 pieces.

I see a good ammount of Bionicle while thrifting, but usually priced a bit high. Nice score.

40lbs of Heresy!!!

I just got a 40lbs lot of Megabloks from Ebay for $75 delivered. Several stylized baseplates, BURPS and panels along with the whole 40lbs thing I kinda couldn't turn it down.

12lbs for $100 thanks to a tip from Kaiser1917. There was just under a pound of misc junk and some crappy Tyco and MegaBloks bricks that got purged, but overall quite a nice haul. I'm guessing ~4000pcs in the upper left tub.

Nice haul. You should be able to build a decent battlefield with that.

My latest haul was the A5412 Autobot Command Center and the A1266 Autobot Assault Devastator for $71.55 after tax and frequent buyer rebate. Which comes out to about $0.06 per piece.

Tyco & Mega aren't my favorite either, but I wouldn't have purged them entirely. If they can be used for scenery or terrain then I'd saved them. My 40lbs of heresy has become a great source for just such purpose. Unless you are trying to win a builder award at a convention I don't see any reason to be brand myopic. In fact Mega & Kre-o make some unique parts that you cannot get from Lego.

Sometimes a 2x4 brick is just a 2x4 brick.

My purge was about 50% non-brick junk (inevitable with thrifting), and 50% Tyco/Megabloks; mostly Tyco. The bricks were quite old/worn and the Tyco colors are terrible; mostly primary colors and ugly shades when next to Lego or even Megabloks. I'm not a heresy advocate, but I wouldn't throw out good bits. :)

Stopped by a Target on my way home to grab a 31014 set to start some SSC musings and found two 40034 sets on a random shelf in the Lego aisle; price check returned $0.49. :D Not the best parts selection, but far from useless and at .5 cents/pcs could not be passed up.

If you find yourself in a Target or a Walmart, take a look around. You might find a random holiday polybag at a stupid price.
