MMMIG: "Fight and/or Flight" Edition

Postby phayze81 » Mon Oct 01, 2018 11:42 am

Recently, your friend and mine, VitorFaria shared some really interesting work he's been doing on a dogfighting variant of MFZ, which will obviously require the construction of suitable craft. This is a job for the Monthly Mecha Model Inspiration Game!

Dogfights not your jam? No worries! Play with the scale and build an aerial drone for RA, or a frigate for IO, or something else entirely! I don't care, just build something!

I've been building a lot of vessels for I.O., but have not yet done anything for Dog Fight. This gives me the opportunity to try something, so here's my submission: Skuttle Rippers!
An Ijad Superiority Fighter that can be used in Atmospheric conditions as well as in the vacuum of space. Some have speculated (But not proven) that this design might even work underwater, but these are only rumors until evidence shows otherwise. So far, only 2 types of Skuttle Rippers have been identified, the blue standard 'Soldier' which seems to be the most common and often operate in swarm tactics, and the orange 'Heavy Assault' variant which has been seen when attacking more defended targets. We are still acquiring data on these vessels, so do not assume these are the only ones in existence.

ImageSkuttle Rippers
BLUE: d6Rd d6Rd Sting Cannons, d6B Hardened Carapace, d6Y Extra Sensory Eye, d6G External Propulsion Tubes
ORANGE: d6Rd d6Rd Sting Cannons, d6B d6B Multi-Layered Hardened Carapace, d6G Aerodynamic Finns.

Hope you enjoyed. And I am always eagerly awaiting any comments you wish to share.

I'm going to move this for the time being as Vitor's new ruleset is its own thing and this {insert adjective here} subforum seems to be the place for things that refer to that ruleset.

Woah, as someone who was actively searching for some concept art inspiration, I deeply appreciate this!

DF ships are meant to be "retro compatible" with RA, since they have basically the same size of a standard frame, but yeah, they might fit here better until you are not pursuing your dream of merging both subfora!

The Blue Falcon is a Flight Support Unit (FSU) that is compatible with most Chub(dam)s depending on the frame's configuration, and is also a viable weapons platform in its own right. Designed to operate as a dedicated air-to-ground asset, the Falcon is equipped with cannons heavy enough to pierce any enemy frames on the battleground. While the anti-frame loadout prevents the Falcon from dealing with air threats effectively (the cannons being ideal for slower less maneuverable targets such as frames, tanks, and other such hardened vehicles) its more than capable of avoiding enemy fire despite the weight of the cannons. In emergency situations, the Blue Falcon can dump the cannons and use its docking arms as impromptu melee weapons to grapple and batter opponents.

The Manta Racer is a VTOL stunt jet with variable geometry wings. Or a frame's transformable jump pack that doubles a deployable forward observation drone. Or the escape vehicle for a 1p scale Gundam-esque mech. What do you see?

Yeeeeesssss! Off to a great start already this month, gang! I love those Ijad space pods, and the whole notion of a Rorschach Build.

Also, I actually made a thing this month!

I may be getting too greedy, but I'm really hoping to churn out a couple more of these. It's nice to get out of the Mecha-rut and back to my childhood spaceship-building roots. :D

Nice use of that part to make an arrow-shaped base, Phayze!

I'm not sure how to classify these. At first I was going to call them Frames, but at the same time they also have a space frigate and or fighter vibe to them, so for now I'll post them here.

StellWhales, though not whales in the purest sense, their movements resemble that of whales found on ancient terra. Because their tails are flexible, able to face either forwards or backwards, they are often equipped with some weapon system to provide a wide range of defense.

BLACK: d6Rd d6Rd Sting Laser, d6B Hardened Carapace, d6Y Targeting Scope, d6G Aerofins
GREY: d6Rd d6Rd d8Rd Multiple Sting Lasers, d6Y d6Y Dual Targeting Scopes

I hope you enjoyed and as always, I eagerly await any and all comments you wish to share.

I threw this one together in LDD the other day. Interpret it as what you will, a frame, a drone or a ship, it was fun to build!

It was an honor to be a part of this!

Also, the article by Niklas Jansson you posted as source is wonderful!
