Phaze Skirmisher

Postby Trokodile » Sun Aug 04, 2019 8:58 pm

Inspired by Phayze81's avatar, a frame that I don't know the name of, this is my Phaze Skirmisher.

Loadout:
d6Rd d6Rd Energy Beam
d6Rh d6Rh Knife
d6G Boosters
d6B Armor
d6W d6W
I've tried making it in other colors and posing it at other angles, but none seem to have the same appeal as the classic yellow/black Skirmisher.

As with some of my other designs, I've stud.io'd a few. This design was the first to get not just a still-frame render, but a full 360-degree gif.

Hope you enjoyed it, as it took me five tries and three days to get this to work properly.

The original picture didn't make the design justice, great to have a 360 of it!

I will admit that in hindsight, I should've taken more than a single angle. As I'm revisiting this design, I'm realizing that there's more originality here than I first though. Updated crediting: Phayze81 for the arm railgun and the head design.
I made a red and white one in a racing design, but quickly raided it for parts. I'll try and Stud.io a render of it.

Very cool! It's always nice to have inspired someone to make something awesome! ^^

Vitor is right, the 360 does a much better job of showing off the build.

If you're curious, the frame in my avatar is this one: https://flic.kr/p/G2i2fY

My only hope is that someday I'll be able to do that, too.

Thanks for the kind words on the design!

And, that's a cool frame! I have noticed that your non-MMMIG builds (as well as a few that are) seem to have a bit of coherence to the shape, which was sort of my idea for this. As for the MMMIG, it's a fun idea, and I will try to submit an entry for all future ones!

Phaze Skirmisher Racer

Postby Trokodile » Sun Dec 15, 2019 12:20 pm

Finally revisiting an unphotographed mod of this frame from months earlier, this time through Stud.io. I had made a red-and-white racing variant of the Phaze Skirmisher, but immediately had to scrap it for parts. So, when I had a lack of ideas the other day, I was instead looking at all the different MF0 custom rulesets that had become popular, and finally read the Rooftop Racing rules. I immediately thought of my old design, and decided to give it another try.

I added all the old features I could remember, such as the 1x4 round slope on the head, and the traditional single arm. However, much of my memory of it was lacking, so I improvised. I definitely changed the legs and jetpack, but the defensive arm might be from the original. I was trying to think of what to put there instead of the railgun, since I was going for a weaponless style, and ended up building something reminiscent of a Gallade arm. For a racer frame, I think it turned out pretty good, but if I was ever to brick it, I would swap back to the classic jetpack.

Building instructions can be found here.
