MMMIG: "Go Speed Racer!" Edition

Postby phayze81 » Sat Jun 30, 2018 2:21 pm

I live to serve, as I'm sure you all know well, so when the Discord community asked for a MMMIG all about racing mechs, I cheerfully obliged. Thanks for the suggestions Shades, Aardvark, Plexus, et al.!

So take a break from the endless waltz of the history of warfare and go to the races! Or not! Go ahead and build a super fast combat frame, if that's what you're into. Inspiration, blah blah blah.

I highly recommend following that link to Flickr and checking the MRL - Mecha Racing League Flickr group. There are LOADS of awesome racers in there, all begging to be reimagined at 7p.

Here is my submission, taken from my recent ProtoFrame design. This may not be the best Framcer, (Frame Racer), but I like it and I felt it should be shared.

EDIT:
Actually, I lied. lol. After posting this I had an idea for a racer that I have not yet had the chance to build, but I bricked it almost immediately after I logged off. Stupid me. Anyway, I present to you: The ROCKET-POWERED TURBO SNAIL!!

This is the kinda stuff that gives me hope.
Water is patient.
Water just waits.
Wears down the cliff tops, the mountains.
The whole of the world.
Water always wins.

Made myself a racer with some heelys and hands that can extent slightly to gab onto things as it swings around corners.

Also, that rocket snail is amazing!!!

I already made a post for my Vector racer, so here's another!

The Hyperion DX900! The heavy brawler and 'muscle car' of the racing scene ^^.

Might as well drop this here...

The OBS-04 Monk is lightweight, nimble, and perfect for frame racing, although it was not originally designed for such.

So this thread inspired me to dust off my Shieldmaiden design and make a racing version. Call it a Speedmaiden. Feels like a sleek 80's muscle car.

Despite the Speedmaiden's bulk, collapsable wheeled outriggers on its arms allows the Speedmaiden to make hairpin turns with confidence.

Tri-Racer, on Flickr.

This was built exclusively for the Monthly Mecha Making Inspiration Game. It took me a while to build something for this challenge because I wanted a design that was different from all the others that had been posted so far.

Didn't realize this thread was still active after the month is over.
But I'm glad it gives me a place to post this!

Just finished this one, although it's a little way too big to be used as a frame standing up. But in it's second "kneeling" pose, it just barely fits within the 10x10 stud boundary. And since you can't set it down while it's standing up, I'm fine with it's size.

Since the pictures don't give a great view of the construction of the frame, I've modeled it here: https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/kOjLd6ypjx6 (Mecabricks doesn't have a specific part, which the red bricks replace).

At this point I've started on a third, and have plans for a fourth, so I'm going to stop posting them on this thread and make a new thread once the whole squad is done.
