OBS-03 Prism

Postby Omniscient Frog » Wed Jun 20, 2018 12:42 pm

I'm a relatively new member to the Hangar, but I've been working on a new company and figured I'd make my presence known and post it here. Without further ado, introducing the core mobile frame of the Ouroboros Simulacrum: the OBS-03 Prism!

Credit goes to the KNight frame for inspiration on the torso, as well as Phayze's Vandella frame for the upper leg build.

More frames and loadouts hopefully to come.

Woah, that's a pretty rad first frame post!

Nice use of hinge plate arms here, and those Vandella style legs really complement the build well!

Welcome to the Hanger, Omniscient Frog! I hope you find lots of inspiration here and lots of helpful advice and players. I would like to agree with VitorFaria that your build is pretty sweet. What caught my eye was the technic stoppers tucked on the sides. That is a nice detail element.

Very nice frame, Omniscient Frog! I'm digging the colors and shaping on this; particular like the head. And welcome to the forum!

Thanks for all the kind words!
spacemonkey, the tilted head is actually my favorite part! I think it gives the frame an angular look that would feel more blocky without the rotation.

I've actually made some systems for my frame since the last post, so here's the group all kitted out:

ImagePrism Frame Group shot by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

The squad as it stands now consists of two soldiers, a closer, and a delegator.

ImageOBS-03 Prism -- Soldier Loadout by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

The thing on the back of the soldier is a communications and sensory array, which serves as a yellow system. I'm quite happy with the design -- it gives a distinct feel to the frame, with those two spires protruding from its back.

ImageOBS-03 Prism -- Soldier Loadout by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

Each frame has a number of gold studs on its arm, to help me keep track of which is which when they're low on systems.

ImageOBS-03 Prism -- Delegator Loadout by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

The delegator's sensor array is more built up than the soldiers', and the additional dish can be detached when it loses that system (it's only attached by a single stud).

ImageOBS-03 Prism -- Closer Loadout by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

The closer is probably my favorite looking loadout, with its giant energy tank powering the two fusion edges. It looks very agressive, although I'm not sure yet if each blade is a system with the tank being purely aesthetic, or if the tank is the additional hand-to-hand system with both blades counting as one.

Let me know what you think of the lot of these! More to come soon!

Oh yeah, the systems really turn it up a notch! Especially the back ornamental pieces and the shoulder shields! My favorite is definitely the "Closer", but they are all great!

Wonderful looking squad there Omniscient Frog, very scary. And hi props for the sensor fins on the Soldier and Delegator. Very nice and simple. As for your question about the Closer's Energy Tank being a system, in my opinion, I would label each blade as a system ( d6Rh d6Rh d8Rh ) and the Tank as a movment system ( d6G ) because from a technical viewpoint, the tank provides an energy source. What that source powers up is immaterial because we all have seen shows, movies, games ect that say something like: "Reroute power from the weapon systems to the shields" and the like. I like to think the same can happen here.
But again, this is only my opinion and the final decision is ENTIRELY up to you.

Interesting thought, although that would require dropping one of the other systems (this guy's already maxed out with d6W d6W d6Rd d6Rd d6Rh d6Rh d8Rh d6B). I might drop the gun and turn it into a Close Assault.

Very nice squad! The idea with the gold studs on the arm is quite clever, I might try something like that!

Welcome :)! And let me say very nice work right out of the gate. I have yet to see a head design like that, very clever. The shoulder shields look really nice, and the sensor array really gives the frame an intimidating look. Very nice distinctive work, definitely looking forward to your future designs as well. :D

I've had these up on Flickr for a bit now but haven't gotten around to posting them here. Better late than never, here are the latest variants on the Ouroboros Simulacrum's Prism frame: the OBS-03B Fractal

ImageOBS-03B Fractal -- Systemless by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

The Fractal is hardier than the standard Prism, and they often serve as specialist frames within the Simulacrum's ranks. The two frames in this company are outfitted as a Missile Monkey and a Tank respectively.

ImageOBS-03B Fractal -- Tank Loadout by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

The tank's shield armatures were possibly my favorite part of the build, and the mini-spires were fun to figure out, even though they're only aesthetic (they're attached to the shield pack).

Fully loaded up and ready for action, the Fractals are ready to serve the Simulacrum!

The final two frames of the Ouroboros Simulacrum's first company are soon to come. Until then, let me know what you think of these ones!

I like these builds, your designs have a "menacing cyborg" look to them, which I like. The little revision on the legs is nice too. Great work :)

Presenting the ace frame of the Ouroboros Simulacrum: The OBS-03C Prism Crown

ImageOBS-03C Prism Crown group shot by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

The Prism Crown has more raw output than either the Prism or the Fractal, yet suffers from prohibitive fuel costs as a result. Thus, it requires an enhanced power source to optimize its performance.

ImageOBS-03C Prism Crown -- Enhanced Power Source by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

Crowns are used almost exclusively by the Simulacrum's ace pilots, as they are the only ones able to handle the frame's unique temperament.

Some pilots will additionally customize their frame to tailor it to their personal style:

ImageOBS-03C-BF Prism Crown {BladeFiend Custom} -- Pike Loadout by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

ImageOBS-03C-BF Prism Crown {BladeFiend Custom} -- Pike Loadout by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

While others prefer to leave the base model intact, mastering the ins and outs of the frame's unmodified potential:

ImageOBS-03C Prism Crown -- Mini-soldier Loadout by Omniscient Frog, on Flickr

Whatever their preference, whosoever becomes a pilot of a Prism Crown is counted among the Simulacrum's elite.

-----

And with that the lineup is complete. I might post a final full-group image with stations, but this is the end of the 1st Company proper. Let me know your thoughts, and I hope you enjoyed!

Wow, that new color scheme rocks as does the use of capes as "skirts"; also really like the shoulder pieces and naginata on the one. :)
