New member, new mechs

Postby McKelvie » Fri Jun 15, 2018 1:21 pm

Hello! I've finally signed up for an account here after being a fan of the game for a while, and wanted to share the design that makes the core of my squad.

I wanted to challenge myself to get the flow of a Gundam style mech without getting too large. It started off as a Chubdam, actually (it still has the standard Chub shoulder and head connections). This is what I ended up with, via a version that had more poseable legs and arms, but was a good brick higher. You can probably see the various influences on it - I think the legs came via the Iguana, for example, though putting that inverted slope on tap at the hip gave it "thighs" that really made the leg "move" in the way I wanted. I'm also especially pleased with the exposed spine at the back.

The guns and spotting systems are straight up copies of other people's designs, I haven't really focused on that yet (just wanted to get playing).

And for anyone interested, here's the evolution of the frame. I liked the Iron Man shoulders a lot, but in the end felt they were too detailed compared to the rest of the design.

Dang, McKelvie, you know how to make an entrance! Those are some fantastic looking frames! Love the shaping and colors; like those the evolution of the frame pictures too.

Oh, and welcome to the forum! :D

Dang man, these are solid. Welcome to the hangar!
This is a really great frame design, if this is your first, I can't wait to see what else you'll make!
I have to agree with you, those Iron Man shoulders are dope, but they do clash a bit visually. Maybe a frame with more minifig accessory parts as detailing could make it work.
Awesome stuff, and again, welcome!

Thanks, everyone. And yeah, I agree re: the Iron Man shoulder pads. They're too good to go to waste, so it's a question of designing a frame that has that kind of detailing throughout.

There's also this guy, but I'm not sure he deserves his own thread as he is just a reskinned Iguana. I do like his little secondary arms at the front though.

Wow! I mean WOW! I am going to add this "....." To quote everyone else's comments. Theses frames are Phenomenal! You really have an eye for design. I can notice some of Mittenninja's style (which I was personally very inspired by). These frames are great works of art in themselves. Looking forward with great anticipation to what is next :D

Thank you! And yes, a big fan of MittenNinja's designs. I've got 3 other squads for other people to play, and one of them is the updated Landscripts - I use his spotting and shield designs for most of them, too.

I can dig it, very cool! I think I see the beginnings of an Iron Blooded Orphans design in that chest.

Very much a first draft of a new design. I want to do something inspired by the flight suits in Nier: Automata. You'll be able to see some obvious Zizy techniques in here, which is how I tend to start - start aping something else then chip away at it until it's more mine.

Here they are, minus a few hands and whatever (I didn't fully put them back together after the last game. Two squads of Chubs and a squad of Landscripts, with a couple of Scramblers and an Iguana.

Second pass at this guy. I think I'll swap out the second hands for guns etc when I want to give it that system.

Next up is working on the legs, and then properly deciding on colours.
