Traveler Class Light Frame

Postby VitorFaria » Mon Aug 28, 2017 10:24 pm

One frame that definitely needs more love is the Mechaton 5th gen, by Vincent himself.

Took inspiration from it's main body shape and threw some Soren-style joints on it, and the Traveler was born!

Of course, couldn't resist using the Classic Space scheme again.

I really,
and I mean really,
dig the simplicity and form of those legs.
Awesome. Also, very cute little arms and great build overall! The shoulder armor is really interesting. Great job!

Thanks a lot, Aardvark!

Simplicity was an overall theme with this guy, so I could focus on the general base frame. Now I'm planning some variations on top of it.

This frame is really bare bones simplicity and I love it :)

Although because of the frames size would you have to scale down the playing field?

Thanks!

It is short, but not that short. It has roughly the same height as some of my earlier frames, like the ST-01 Classic and Salticidae. Those don't look out of place in a standard 7p game, as you can see in some of my battle reports.

Decided to experiment with some systems for the Traveler.

It sorta gave me a peaceful vibe, probably because of the space colors, so I decided to give it nothing way too aggressive looking. Ironically I ended up building them black with trans yellow highlights which brings it closer to Blacktron style.

Now those are some good systems. It's incredible how cool this guy looks with those simple yet very effective weaponry.
That drone! It's like 5 or so pieces yet it looks SO GOOD! And the boosters are 3 pieces and yet also just as awesome, great use of that gun piece.
I'm impressed, Vitor.
Also, I continue to fall in love with the legs on this frame. Might have to build one myself.
I also really like the idea of a more peaceful, shaman-like frame with drones and a staff...
Awesome job Vitor, very well done.

This is a prime example of how basic can be so awesome! The shape and build of the frame is really cool, the colors 5 in total, all basic, are just blended so well, and now the weapons and boosters and this just rocks! Awesome job indeed :)

The drone is pretty cool too, fits perfectly the Light Frame.

Thanks for the kind words, Aardvark!

I'm also pretty happy with the leg in general, it's mostly a skinny version of the Chub leg, thou. Probably going to reuse it a lot in future frames.

Amazing how a simple color scheme swap can make the Traveler a hundred times more militaristic.

We could definitely use an army of these frames to help build sandbag defenses against Hurricane Irma that's coming.

And I echo that a simple color change can change the entire theme of a Frame. Well done indeed VitorFaria 8-)

The frame is short and simple, just like I like them.

I really like the little details, like the arrangement of the tap pieces to look like neck pistons.
The LF-D5 "Stub" is the top of the line in agriculture frames, designed to haul heavy farm equipment. It is also easy to repair, with standardized connections between all joints. Buy one today.

Also, it's also quite cute on the battlefield....

Thanks! That's a neat detail most 3 wide Chub-like chest have, I'm happy to have it here.

Ok, so what I said about the Lockon frame, how it's a frame that never gets old, and how you can continuously tweek it and it comes out awesome.... Well same applies to this frame :D . It's so small, so simple, yet so awesome, however there's only so much you can do right? Well Vitorfaria you prove that something that has simplicity can have variety, be creative, fun, and awesome.

Oh and it's perfect for a budget frame, or those who have limited pieces. Loving this design. Great work :)

Thanks, KungFuji!

Yeah, as most frames that see actual table use in my games, I tried to maintain the simplicity and low part count so I coul build a bunch of them, and I did! Gonna post more pics in the next few days.

To my detriment, I missed this post originally. I have to say I really like this little frame, especially being inspired by Vincent's original 5gen. My favorite detail is the way the two right angled bars on the taps fit perfectly under the headlight head looking like neck actuators. Good stuff, Vitor!

On the original Traveler, I made one small change to the waist (replaced the 1x1 plate with a 1x2 jumper) to move the body forward half a stud over the legs for a better stance on the Chub legs. The 5gen torso was set back too, but the highly angular legs hid this making it's stance look "action-y". In the end it might just be personal preference.

I started adding systems, but somewhere along the way things got out of hand. I added a brick in height (2 plates in the torso and 1 on top of the head), then shoulders and legs got bulked out. The end result is VERY different from the budget frame it started as, but the core is still there and the end result is very VOTOMS.

d6W d6W d6Rd d6Rd d6B d6G d6Y d8Rr

This LDD file has the original Traveler, my slight mod, and the Super Traveler (and a Chub for size comparison). The shoulder armor design ended up being highly modable for systems, but the shoulder armor connection isn't the strongest. If I can solve the lack of clutch for the shoulder armor, I'd seriously consider building a full company of Super Travelers.

Thanks for the kind words! And, man, that's gorgeous!

You moved it closer to the Chub with those armored legs and beefier look, and it totally works!

Also, that gun is perfect for it, just the right size and look!
