Dem Bones - A Frame Skeleton Repository

Postby phayze81 » Thu Apr 05, 2018 5:43 pm

One of the things that I notice when checking Flickr for notifications is that my inner frame and limb study posts have an interesting ability to get new favs as time goes on, while most of my pics get a certain number of favs within the first week or two after posting and rarely get any attention afterward.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but my conclusion is that these must seem particularly useful or interesting to other builders, so I took the time to compile them into this Flickr album for easy reference. After that, I realized that sharing them here might be a good idea as well, so here we go!

(There are a few larger skeletons that are in the album, but not posted here because they're a bit oversized for MFZ-play)

I also took some "naked" pics of Aardvark's Bandit:

And here are some of what I cal "Limb Studies", which may prove useful to someone who struggles, as I do, with getting just the right balance between proportions and articulation.

If you've got a skeleton that you've built on, then post it here too! This could be a really handy depository for anyone looking for a good place to start with a new frame.

I'm really digging the one on the right, in particular. Will share if I cobble something together.

Thanks! I've always meant to do more with that one, but it just fell off the radar some point. I'd love to see what you do with it! ^^

Funny thing, I was thinking the exact same thing when I found them in my Flickr archives. Already planning to revamp the frame and do some brick built Grazes! ^^

Recent acquisitions have allowed me to refine the PUG's design a bit more. Here's the (slightly) improved skeleton in digital mock-up. Yes, there is a half-technic-pin inside the upper torso. It's absolutely necessary.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing your skelly's all!

I would have never figured out the half-pin in the Pug on my own!

Thought I had more of these than I did. I'm more likely to show a breakdown photo than a skeleton, but these are my two:

This is a fantastic idea for a thread. I have much fewer breakdowns or skeleton shots than I expected. This is probably because I tend to build one-off frames and not iterate on a single design. But I wanted to post what I had here.

One of my oldest frames is the Imbrium Lunokhod Industries Model VS-MX-04 'Rangi' (thread here, Flickr album here).

Here's a Skeleton/Breakdown:

Here's a link to the XML file of the parts list. You can also find a wishlist on Brickowl.

And here's a parts list:

LEGO Tile 1 x 1 with Groove (3070 / 30039) - 4

One of my absolute favorites of my own builds is the KS-612χ 'Scylla' from Voyna Engineering Ltd. (thread here, Flickr album here). I don't have a complete breakdown since the top is basically all greebles. The body of the frame is just a one brick thick stack with hardpoints along the sides and SNOT bricks in the middle.

My newest frame is the Imbrium Lunokhod Industries VS-A/F-91a 'Varuna' (thread here, Flickr album here).

Here's a build collage and a full piece-by-piece breakdown.

I also want to give a shout out to another thread where I compiled a list of official small frames released by LEGO.

EDIT: Adding a link to some hand/arm and foot options in the HR-53e Micro Faulter thread

Nice additions, you guys! Ragni in particular is one that I learned a lot from when I first saw it. Thanks for sharing! ^^

Find this in my archives while looking for something else and figured I should share it here.
